COUNSELLING
Counselling at The
Karter Consultancy
What is Counselling ?
Counselling is about exploring the current and past experiences that are affecting your day-to-day mental health and wellbeing. It has a reparative focus: clinically examining both past and present events with the aim of repairing, healing and reprocessing how you relate to them.
Restoring Balance
Counselling is, in many ways, a method of rebalancing the way your mind processes experiences and memories. By bringing unconscious processes into awareness, we can reduce emotional suffering, break entrenched patterns, and move towards acceptance and clarity with renewed perspective.
ASSURANCE
A Confidential
& Supportive Space
Embarking on therapy for the first time can feel daunting. Many people arrive feeling low, anxious, burnt out or completely lost.
You might be struggling through a difficult period of depression, waking up each day with a sense that everything feels pointless, or feeling trapped in cycles you can't seem to escape. You may be turning to short-term coping behaviours such as drinking, scrolling, and avoidance, all without knowing how to break the loop.
Counselling offers a calm, confidential space to explore why this is happening, and what's sitting underneath it. I have worked with clients who came to their first session feeling hopeless, only to discover over time that genuine transformation is possible. People often begin therapy believing nothing can change, and end it living in alignment with their values, with renewed energy, confidence and purpose.
All of that begins with one decision: choosing to explore what's been happening for you, with honesty and courage.

WORKING WITH THE UNCONSCIOUS
Most of the time, we go through life on autopilot. The thoughts, behaviours and emotional responses we struggle with today are often rooted in unconscious processes.
Patterns are shaped long before we're aware of them. Much like driving a familiar route without remembering the journey, we can find ourselves living in ways that no longer make sense, without fully understanding how we got there.
Counselling helps bring these processes into awareness, so we can understand why we feel or behave the way we do, and how those patterns developed. From there, we work together to shift them and establish new, more constructive ways of thinking and living. The deeper and more reinforced these new habits and ways of thinking become through our work together, the more established and sustainable the new pattern will be.
